December 21, 2024: Ohio State dominated Tennessee, 42-17, in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Despite much posturing and trash talking by the Volunteer team, staff, and fans ahead of the matchup, the SEC proved unequal to the B1G in this contest.

The game was never in doubt, with the Buckeyes cruising to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. By the end of the first half, Tennessee had pulled to within two scores, but it was never that close again and the Buckeyes advanced to take on Oregon in the second round.

Among the many highlights was the play of running back TreVeyon Henderson who had 80 yards on 10 carries, 54 yards on 4 receptions, and notched two touchdowns on the ground, including the exclamation point in the fourth quarter.

On 2nd and 10 from the Tennessee 24 yard line, Henderson’s number was called. He took the handoff and headed up the middle, but found nothing but Volunteer defenders waiting. Undeterred, he bounced the play outside to his left, shook off a tackle, and sprinted straight ahead to the endzone for Ohio State’s final score.

It was one spectacular play in a night full of them for the Buckeyes, who advance to continue in their hunt for another national title.
