January 1, 2025: The Rose Bowl was a much anticipated matchup in the 2024-25 College Football Playoff, as the sports world awaited the rematch of the #1 overall seed Oregon Ducks vs the Ohio State Buckeyes.

In the regular season, the Ducks narrowly beat Ohio State, but the Buckeyes were coming off an absolute thrashing of Tennessee the week before. Now the two Big Ten teams would collide in the quarterfinals.

Ohio State received the opening kickoff and immediately went to work. Less than a minute into the game with the ball at the Oregon 45 yard line, quarterback Will Howard took the shotgun snap. He faked the handoff to Quinshon Judkins, who sprinted right. The Duck defense was confused and disordered and failed to pick up wide receiver Jeremiah Smith as he sprinted from the right side of the formation to the left.

Just as he passed Howard, the quarterback made the short throw and Smith was off to the races. He broke one tackle in the secondary and cruised easily into the endzone for the 45-yard score.

Smith was a highlight in a really big day for the victorious Buckeyes, totaling 7 catches for a massive 187 yards and 2 touchdowns.
