December 21, 2024: In the first round of the 2024-25 College Football Playoffs, the Penn State Nittany Lions hosted the SMU Mustangs. SMU’s 11-win season was a remarkable achievement and they were keen to upset the heavily favored Nittany Lions.

The game started slowly, but broke open with just over six minutes left in the first quarter. On 2nd and 10 from his own 20 yard line, SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings dropped back to pass, but overthrew his receiver. Linebacker Dominic DeLuca was there.

DeLuca had a clear lane and took off toward the endzone. He outran pursuit in his 23 yard dash for the touchdown. Incredibly, the interception was one of DeLuca’s two in the game.

Penn State never looked back and after DeLuca’s pick six, Penn State cruised to a 38-10 victory over the Mustangs.
