November 27, 1998: Against rival Texas A&M, Ricky Williams broke the all-time NCAA rushing record long held by Tony Dorsett. Needing only 11 yards, he broke a long run on the left side of the line for a 60 yard touchdown. Unranked Texas would go on to upset #6 Texas A&M 26-24 with Williams rushing 44 times for 259 yards

Getting Williams the rushing record and the Heisman was the top priority for head coach Mack Brown that season, the focus of which likely cost the Longhorns a chance at a conference title as feeding Williams took priority over offensive game planning.

Breaking the record was Williams’s Heisman moment and he won the coveted award weeks later in New York, followed by a short NFL career. Williams finished his collegiate career with 6,279 rushing yards
