2024 Iron Skillet on Metal || SMU Mustangs vs TCU Horned Frogs

September 21, 2024: The Iron Skillet is the name given to the historic football series between the SMU Mustangs and the TCU Horned Frogs. The rivalry, which dates back to 1915, is one of the oldest in college football, with the winner receiving the coveted Iron Skillet trophy.

SMU started the game with a bang, jumping out to a 17-0 lead within the first nine minutes. This early surge included a 51-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Brandon Crossley and a 69-yard punt return by Roderick Daniels Jr. just 58 seconds later. TCU fought back, with Josh Hoover throwing for 396 yards and three touchdowns, but turnovers plagued the Horned Frogs, including two interceptions and two fumbles.

SMU's Brashard Smith was a standout, rushing for 127 yards and three touchdowns, while also catching a 24-yard scoring pass from Kevin Jennings. The Mustangs' defense was opportunistic, recovering two fumbles and intercepting two passes, including a 69-yard interception return for a touchdown by Ahmaad Moses.

SMU pulled away with a 41-21 lead at halftime, the most points the Mustangs had ever scored in a half during the series.

SMU continued to dominate in the second half, finishing with a 66-42 victory. This win not only gave SMU the Iron Skillet trophy but also showcased their offensive firepower and defensive prowess in what would become the school’s best season since 1982.
