The 2023 Michigan Wolverines had a remarkable season, finishing with a perfect 15-0 record and claiming their first College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship, and first national title since 1997. Under the leadership of head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines dominated the Big Ten Conference, winning the East Division and the conference championship with a 26-0 victory over Iowa.
The season was highlighted by the team's powerful running attack, led by running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, who combined for over 2,000 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his dual-threat abilities also played a crucial role.
The championship game against Washington was a showcase of Michigan's strength and depth. The Wolverines took an early lead with two long touchdown runs by Donovan Edwards in the first quarter. By halftime, Michigan led 17-3.
After trading field goals in the third quarter, Michigan running back Blake Corum added two more touchdowns and the Wolverines emerged victorious, 34-13.
This championship win not only marked Michigan's return to national prominence but also solidified their status as one of the top programs in college football. The 2023 season will be remembered as one of the most successful in Michigan's storied history.
