2024 SEC Champions on Metal || Georgia Bulldogs vs Texas Longhorns

December 7, 2024: Georgia pulled off a dramatic 22-19 victory over Texas in double overtime, the first ever SEC Championship Game to go to into extra periods.

Georgia's star quarterback, Carson Beck, was injured on the final play of the first half, leaving the Bulldogs in a precarious position. Backup quarterback Gunner Stockton stepped in and admirably led the team, but the injury to Beck was a significant blow to Georgia's offense. Despite the disadvantage, Georgia battled back to firmly take control of the game.

The Longhorns stayed competitive thanks to heavily slanted officiating. Texas was the recipient of several favorable calls, including the negation of two clear calls for targeting down the stretch.

Still, the battered and bloody Bulldogs found themselves with 1st and Goal to go on the 4 yard line in OT after Texas had been held to a field goal. A field goal would send the game to a second OT, and a touchdown would win Georgia their third SEC title under head coach Kirby Smart.

Injured quarterback Carson Beck was forced to return to the game after an illegal, but unpenalized, hit on Gunner Stockton knocked his helmet off. The veteran turned and handed the ball to star running back Trevor Etienne, who followed his blocks into the endzone for his second touchdown of the game and the victory.

Georgia proved once again why they are the current bell cow of the SEC, beating Texas for the second time in the Longhorns’ inaugural season in the league and once again claiming an SEC title.
