November 9, 2002: Texas A&M pulled off a stunning upset against the No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners, winning 30-26 in a game that will be remembered for its dramatic plays and the exceptional performance of freshman quarterback Reggie McNeal.
The Aggies were having trouble moving the ball on the Oklahoma defense and turned to freshman quarterback, Reggie McNeal. “The Real Deal” made his first major impact when he found wide receiver Terrence Murphy for a 61 yard touchdown strike, and the whole feel of the game changed.
The Aggies had the ball down 13-6 with time quickly running out in the first half. In the closing seconds, McNeal stepped up in the pocket and launched a deep pass to tight end Greg Porter, who made a spectacular catch in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 13-13 going into halftime.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle, but McNeal put the Aggies ahead for good late in the third quarter and Texas A&M went on to win 30-26. In a game full of outstanding plays, McNeal’s touchdown to Porter at the end of the first half personified his performance that day and remains a highlight reel moment in Aggie lore today.
